Personajes Famosos de Khabarovsk: Sergei Bodrov – Famous People from Khabarovsk: Sergei Bodrov

bodrovBorn in Khabarovsk, on 28 June 1948, Sergei Bodrov is, together with Nikita Mikhailov, one of most popular Russian movie directors outside Russia in recent years. He immigrated to the United States after the collapse of the Soviet Union and currently lives in Los Angeles. He has been nominated twice to the Academy Awards (and he got two Nika awards from the Russian Academy) for his movies “Prisioner of the Mountains” and “Mongol”, the latest shot with special interest as his grandmother was from Buryat ethnicity, an indigenous people from the southeast of the Baikal (Ulan Ude), with Mongolian ascendency, precisely the people from which it is said was Genghis Khan’s, and about which the super production is about.

An interesting fact, another famous Russian of Buryat ascendency (or that he said) was the Oscar awarded actor Yul Brynner, who was born in Vladivostok, and, same as Bodrov, immigrated to the United States.

Currently, Sergei Bodrov plans to release in 2015 his new movie “Seventh Son” with Jeff Bridges (Obadiah Stane in Iron Man), Julianne Moore (Sarah Harding in The Lost World, Catherine Stewart in Chloe), Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian in the saga about Narnia) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow in Game of Thrones and Milo in the recently premiered Pompeii), among others.
